What inspired you to become a doctor?

DR. MESSIEH
I considered several career paths before choosing medicine because I believed it offered the greatest opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Orthopedic surgery became my passion because it combines science, technical precision, and the privilege of restoring mobility. Helping patients return to an active, pain-free life continues to inspire me more than three decades later.

How do you describe what you do on a daily basis?

DR. MESSIEH
I specialize almost exclusively in hip and knee replacement surgery. I help patients whose arthritis has limited their quality of life regain mobility and independence. My focus is not simply performing surgery, but providing personalized care from the initial consultation through recovery to achieve the best possible outcome.

What is the biggest challenge you face in modern medicine?

DR. MESSIEH
One of the greatest challenges is preserving the physician-patient relationship in an increasingly complex healthcare system. Administrative requirements and insurance barriers can sometimes delay or complicate care. My commitment has always been to advocate for my patients and focus on what is medically in their best interest.

Have you ever been off the clock when someone called, “Is there a doctor?”

DR. MESSIEH
Yes. While attending my children’s soccer games, I was occasionally called onto the field to help injured players. I remember reducing a dislocated kneecap for one athlete, providing immediate relief before emergency care arrived. On other occasions, I assisted with splinting fractures and helping injured players safely off the field. Being a physician is a responsibility that extends beyond the office.
