A Pool For Every Vision

If Chris McBride, the owner of Polk County Pools, doesn’t pick up when a current customer texts or calls him, it’s more than likely it’s because he is in a pool—one that he is currently building.

In a world filled with national and regional pool builders building massive digital portfolios that entice potential customers, the family owned business started by Chris’ father, Tommy Sr.—where Chris works alongside his brother, Tommy Jr., and his sister, Gina—has built a gunite strong reputation one satisfied customer at a time.

“I serve as a responsive, hands-on point of contact from start to finish, ensuring clear communication and accountability throughout,” says the Lakeland native and Lake Gibson High School graduate. “We understand that a pool is a significant investment, and we take that responsibility seriously—delivering high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail in every build.”

The company Tommy Sr. started more than 25 years ago specializes in the design, construction and remodeling of custom swimming pools tailored to each client’s vision and lifestyle. “We focus on delivering high-quality craftsmanship and personalized service, whether it’s a brand-new build or a complete pool renovation,” he said. “Our goal is to create beautiful, functional outdoor spaces that enhance both the home and the way our clients enjoy it.”

Polk County Pools constructs gunite pools (which utilize a mixture of cement, sand and water applied to a steel-reinforced frame) and offer world renowned PebbleTec finishes in a variety of colors and high-end options.

The pool building process begins with design and continues with excavation and rebar, the gunite being filled in, tile and plumbing, footing and decking, and ends with the surface being finished.

Chris understands many people have reservations about the pool industry because of past experiences with unreliable or dishonest builders. He and his team work to overcome that by fostering open and honest communication throughout the project and providing regular updates, in person and through technology.

Chris and his family chose to return to Lakeland after a few years away because of the deep appreciation they have for the people and culture, and he’s committed to upholding the reputation his father worked so hard to garner.

“It’s an honor to serve the people of Lakeland and Polk County and to be part of the community’s continued success,” he says.
