The Detroit Tigers Are Back
Celebrating 86 years of the Detroit Tigers’ spring training season in Lakeland.
Baseball is back in Central Florida with the Tigers’ 2022 spring training season. The team officially returns to Lakeland to begin their spring training schedule on February 25th, kicking off the new year with their annual exhibition against the SEU Fire baseball team, followed by many exciting matchups.
This year marks the City of Lakeland’s 86th year hosting the Detroit Tigers for spring training, making it the longest-standing relationship between a Major League team and a current Spring Training host city.
Before any baseballs are hit or thrown this season, the 75th annual Tigers Barbecue will welcome the Detroit Tigers back to Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. The annual Tigers Barbecue features an all-you-can-eat buffet, live music, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. At this year’s Barbecue, the Tigers will honor the life of Detroit Tiger Hall of Famer, “Mr. Tiger” Al Kaline, who passed away in April of 2020 with a commemorative glass mug. Fans who attend the Barbecue will receive the commemorative souvenir mug to take home. The Barbecue takes place two days before the Tigers’ exhibition against the SEU Fire, on February 23rd, from 6 - 8 p.m.
The Tigers will play games against the Red Sox, Phillies, Yankees, and more during Lakeland’s spring training schedule. You can purchase tickets at the TigerTown Box Office or call the Lakeland ticket office at (866) 668-4437 to secure your seats.
