Sometimes the best ideas in life happen when you’re eating one of your favorite meals. For Jonathon Ax, a Cuban sandwich from Elena’s Cuban Cafe was the staple as he stared across the street at Stone Center, an established business he felt would perfectly complement his general contracting company, Ax Construction.
For years, he and his friend, Lakeland entrepreneur Matt Coyle, had talked about how they should open a kitchen and bathroom remodeling business together. That aspiration became something tangible when he met the previous owner of Stone Center and found out he was opening to selling it.
In 2024, Jonathan and Matt officially took over the company located at 2205 E. Edgewood Dr., and their team continues to help customers design and bring to reality dream kitchens and bathrooms utilizing an incredible selection of products.
“We truly are a one stop home remodel center,” says Ax, who worked as a full-time youth pastor for years before deciding to start his own business when he and his wife’s third child was on the way. “We provide all products necessary to remodel kitchens, baths, and homes and have the skilled technicians to carry out all work required.”
Prospective customers can see designs brought to life with 3D design consultations and staff make plans for everything from countertops to cabinets to flooring with on-site visits that sets the stage for transformations of rooms and homes.
Ax and Coyle both grew up in Lakeland and graduated from local high schools, and part of their purpose is to simply invest back in the community that means so much to them.
“We aren't here to make some quick money and get out. We're here to stay and raise our families in a community that we love,” Ax says. “God and family are the center of everything we do and Lakeland is the city that helped mold me into the person I am.”
